Choosing your options

Finish. Gloss or Matte is the look you prefer. Both carry our standard finish, a 2K clear coat with UV absorbers over a heat-resistant outer layer, because the engine bay runs hotter than anywhere outside the car and heat is what makes a clear coat yellow over time. For the large majority of owners that is the right choice. On Gloss you can also add our Full Thermal Clear Coat, where the heat-resistant formulation runs through every layer rather than the outer one alone, the most durable finish we offer for the bay. It costs more and is a deliberate choice for owners who want the longest life. The standard finish is not a lesser one.

The CarbonXtreme Carbon Fiber Radiator Cooling Shroud is a direct replacement for the factory plastic shroud at the front of the BMW G80 M3, G82 M4, and G87 M2 engine bay. You take out the molded plastic piece and bolt in a complete carbon fiber part, already finished and clear-coated, ready to run. It is one piece of the complete carbon engine bay, and it is at its best seen as part of that whole.

BMW does not offer this piece in carbon. The factory M Performance carbon catalog is exterior trim, and the only carbon part BMW fits in the engine bay is the engine cover. There is no factory carbon radiator shroud, so a full carbon bay is not something you can option from BMW. It is built one piece at a time, from parts like this.

On its own, it cleans up the front of the bay. The full effect arrives when every panel is carbon. Open the hood at a meet or on a weekend drive, and a fully converted bay reads as one continuous run of carbon rather than a single part sitting among plastic, and that is usually the moment people lean in to look. For that reason most owners do not add this shroud on its own; they build the whole bay. Fitment: BMW G80 M3 (2021 and up), G82 M4 (2021 and up), and G87 M2 (2023 and up), along with the S58-shared G81 M3 Touring and G83 M4 Convertible. Every one runs the same S58 engine and shares this engine bay layout.

Construction: This is genuine dry carbon. The shroud is made from prepreg carbon fiber and cured under pressure in an autoclave, the same method behind OEM and motorsport parts, not the hand-laid wet carbon that is sold for less and shows its shortcuts up close. The pressure drives the air out of the layup, so the weave stays tight and even and the part is light and dimensionally stable. The few fine surface pinholes any weave can leave are filled before the clear coat goes on, far fewer than a hand-laid part needs. The strength dry carbon is known for does little on a part like this, and we would rather say so. A cooling shroud carries no real load, so this is not an engineering upgrade. It is an upgrade you feel rather than measure. It is a statement: lightweighting followed to its last gram, and a preference for a bay that reads as carbon all the way through, with nothing left in plastic. You can do without it. You cannot be without it. For the owner who knows the difference, that is the whole point.
